Despite a woeful start to their TNM Super League campaign, Songwe Border Football Club Head Coach Christopher Nyambose insists his team will avoid relegation this season.
His remarks came after a humbling 3-0 defeat to Dedza Dynamos Football Club on Sunday afternoon.

Songwe Border’s season has been nothing short of disastrous, with eight defeats and just one draw in nine games, leaving them firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with a solitary point.
“We’ve played nine games and have 21 more to go; we still have chances,” Nyambose told Wa Mpira, highlighting his belief in a turnaround. “Twenty-one games equal 63 points. We won’t lose all the remaining games. Even the team that wins the league won’t do it with 63 points.”
In Sunday’s match, Gift Magola opened the scoring for Dedza Dynamos in the 36th minute, followed by Tayani Phiri who extended the lead early in the second half. Magola then sealed his brace, completing a dominant performance for Alex Ngwira’s side.
Nyambose acknowledged his team’s effort despite the scoreline. “It was a good performance from the boys, but as you know, if you can’t score, performance doesn’t count,” he lamented.
“We controlled the game and created several chances, but we don’t have that man who can score. We’re lacking that leader with Super League experience.”
He further added, “Dedza has experienced players. We started well, and they seemed to fear us, but they soon realized they were fearing something that wouldn’t bite them. They came stronger and scored. Had we punished them with the chances we created, Dedza would be in trouble right now.”
Nyambose attributed the goal-scoring woes to inexperience.
“We’ve played nine games, but goals are hardly coming, not because the team isn’t creating chances, but because the players we have lack enough experience,” he explained. “I joined the club after the transfer window closed. We’ll try to push with the current players, but we’ll definitely look to bring in experienced players when the window reopens.”
