In an emotionally charged match, referee Enock faced a challenging task maintaining control, but Eagles ultimately had cause to celebrate.
Led by confident captain Davie Lingalawe Jnr, Eagles withstood constant pressure from their opponents, who relied heavily on the pace of Ernest Lego and Ernest Kalulu. However, Eagles’ defense remained resolute throughout.
Champions’ coach Paul Chakuleri made a tactical first-half substitution, bringing on Patrick Banda for Martin Makiyi to absorb Saints’ relentless pressure. Another substitute, Jafali Andrew, replaced Elias Mussa on the hour mark and helped solidify the defense.
Soccer Saints coach Griffin Sakonda introduced fresh legs in Mike Innocent for Edward Lego, but the change disrupted their attacking rhythm. On 70 minutes, Emmanuel Mahilas fired a long-range effort over the bar.
As fatigue set in under the intense sun, players from both sides eagerly awaited the final whistle.
Post-match, Sakonda graciously congratulated the champions: “We fought hard, but our opponents neutralized our tactics. Congratulations to them.”
Chakuleri praised his squad’s dedication despite financial constraints: “Honestly, I didn’t expect us to win the league, but my players gave everything to get us here.” He appealed for support from well-wishers ahead of next season.
Dedza District Youth Football Committee general secretary Isaac Yaseen expressed satisfaction with the competition: “It’s been a competitive season, and we applaud all teams for delivering quality football.”
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to professionally running the remaining U-12, U-14, and U-16 leagues, aligning with the FAM President Fleetwood Haiya’s agenda for transforming the game.
