The Super League of Malawi has rescheduled Thursday’s fixture between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, granting the Nomads’ request to postpone the match due to national team commitments.
The game, originally scheduled for October 16 at Kamuzu Stadium, will now be played on a date yet to be announced.

Wanderers submitted their postponement request to SULOM on Sunday, citing player welfare and competitive integrity after three of their regular starters were called up for Malawi’s national team assignment.
Midfielder Blessings Singini, defender Emmanuel Nyirenda, and forward Wisdom Mpinganjira are expected to arrive back in Lilongwe either today or tomorrow, leaving insufficient time for recovery before Thursday’s scheduled kickoff.
“This request is made on the basis that a number of our first-team players are presently engaged in national team duties and are only expected to arrive back in Lilongwe on Wednesday,” the club’s letter to SULOM reads.
“In view of the short turnaround time between their arrival and the scheduled match, the players would not have sufficient opportunity to recover, reintegrate into the team and undertake the necessary tactical preparations.”
In Monday’s match against São Tomé and Príncipe, both Mpinganjira and Nyirenda remained on the bench as unused substitutes, while Singini was introduced in the 67th minute. Despite the limited playing time, Wanderers argued that the travel demands and quick turnaround posed risks to player welfare.
“Given the importance of maintaining the integrity and quality of the competition, and in the spirit of ensuring fair play and adequate player welfare, we believe that a short adjustment to the match date is both reasonable and consistent with the principles underpinning professional football administration,” the letter continued.
SULOM Grants Request
After reviewing the request, SULOM confirmed the postponement in a brief statement released on Tuesday.
“The game between Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC initially scheduled for Thursday 16 October 2025 at Kamuzu Stadium has been rescheduled to a later date to be communicated,” the statement reads.
The postponement comes at a crucial time in the title race. Wanderers sit second on the log table, four points behind fierce rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. However, the Nomads have a game in hand and could close the gap to just one point with victory in their rescheduled fixture.
The decision adds another layer of complexity to Wanderers’ already congested fixture list. The Nomads are scheduled to travel to Mchinji to face Creck Sporting Club, though the date for that fixture has not been specified. Creck themselves face Mighty Tigers in Blantyre on Wednesday.
With the rescheduled Ekhaya match still to be slotted into the calendar, fixture congestion could become a significant factor in Wanderers’ title challenge as the season progresses.
