Silver claw to a promising start with a convincing win over Chitipa

Adiel Kaduya produced a man of the match performance with a goal and assist to help Silver Strikers start the 2024 season on top after beating Chitipa United 2-0 at the Silver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Bankers got a goal in each half to mark the new season with a win under new coach, Peter Mponda, and proving seriousness on competitions for the league’s Championship.

Head coach for the Bankers, Peter Mponda, siluted his boys for the wonderful performance mostly in the second half that won the points for the team.

“I think it was a good game, we played very well mostly in the second half. The first half was very tight as these guys were marking us one on one but in the second half, it was an improved performance, all in all I am very happy with how the boys have performed.” Said Mponda.

Meanwhile, Elvis Kafoteka, Assistant coach for Chitipa United said his team has really shown that they are not in bad shape but lost concentration in the game leading to conceding goals.

“It was an even contest I think we were better in the first 15 minutes as we did not respect our opponents but after that we started respecting them and we ended up opening the spaces and they managed to those two goals but we played well and the team is not bad.” Said Kafoteka.

The Bankers started with more attacks as they had already played two corner kick in the first 10 minutes before Stimella Muyira forcing George Chikooka with a save on 12th minute and missed another chance after Chitipa launched a counter attack three minutes later. Kennedy Nakhaima denied Adiel Kaduya with a save as the Bankers manages to take five corner kicks after 25 minutes then Chris Lwemba and Lamson Lukali missed their chances for the visitors.

Kaduya opened the scores with the second goal of the 2024 season after finishing a Gift Chunga’s ball that hit the post and the Bankers doubled the scores on 54th minute after Kaduya found Binwell Katinji to score a beauty for the Bankers. Chitipa introduced Andrew Chawira and Rajab Nyirenda for Wetner Kapalamula and Gideon Sululu a minute later and Christopher Gototo replaces Chunga as Dumisani Jere replaced Ken Mlenga for Basongo.

Zebron Kalima and Emmanuel Muyira came in for Chikondi Kamanga and Macdonald Lameck before Binwell Katinji’s goal was chalked off for an offside on 85th minute then Idana was replaced by Patrick Macheso on 87th minute as the Bankers went on to win the match.

The Bankers start the season on top of the table with three points having scored two goals more than Moyale Barracks and FOMO FC who have a goal difference of one goal while Chitipa United are bottom of the table with no point.
