The disciplinary action sends a clear message that SULOM will not tolerate behavior that undermines the integrity of the beautiful game in Malawi.

In announcing the sanctions, SULOM emphasized its unwavering commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity throughout the league. The governing body has called on all clubs to take responsibility for educating their players, technical staff, and supporters about the importance of maintaining order during matches.

“Any future incidents of violence or disorder will be met with appropriate and firm action,” SULOM stated, underlining the seriousness with which such matters are being treated.

The league organizers have appealed to all stakeholders – from club management to passionate fans – to work together in preserving football’s spirit while creating a safe environment for everyone involved in the game.

After being charged with the offenses last month, Chitipa United Football Club issued an apology to football fans following unsportsmanlike behavior by their head coach during a 2-0 defeat against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the TNM Super League at Chitipa Stadium.

Coach Kondwa Ikwanga confronted the referee immediately after the match, resulting in scenes of unrest.

In a club statement, Chitipa United said that football is built on principles of respect, fair play, and sportsmanship, values that were compromised during the match.

The club revealed that, they had since discussed the incident with Coach Ikwanga, who expressed remorse for his actions.

The club has also assured the public of its commitment to upholding discipline, fair play, and professionalism, stating that the recent events do not reflect its core values or standards.

In response to the incident, Coach Ikwanga had promised management, fans, and officials that such behavior will not be repeated, acknowledging that there are more appropriate ways to express grievances.

Following the match, some frustrated fans took advantage of the situation, leading to chaos at the stadium and necessitating police intervention using teargas to disperse the crowd.

The visiting team was later granted a police escort for safety.
