Silver Strikers Head Coach Peter Mgangira is calling for consistency from his squad as they set their sights on defending their TNM Super League title.
The nine-time champions, currently sitting in seventh place with 11 points from six games, are preparing for a crucial away match this afternoon against rivals Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Stadium.
Mgangira addressed concerns about the team’s start to the season, acknowledging the high expectations placed on the defending champions.
“I think the boys are in good shape, they look sharp and ready,” Mgangira stated.

He downplayed the impact of injuries, emphasizing the depth of his 30-player squad. “We signed 30 players who are all equally good… We’re hoping that those who are going to be given a chance to play will show that they are also part of this team.”
He expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations, noting excellent training sessions throughout the week. Looking ahead to the clash with Blue Eagles, Mgangira acknowledged the challenge.
“We know it’s not going to be easy playing against a very good squad with a very well experienced Coach Mr. Msakakuona who has coached football at all levels, locally and even at internationally. But as I always say, we respect the opposition but we do not fear them.”
Silver Strikers had a tough start to their campaign, securing only one point from their first two league games after a loss to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and a 2-2 draw with Chitipa United. However, “The Bankers” have since found their stride, remaining unbeaten in their last four league matches and Airtel Top 8 games, with five wins and a late draw against Mighty Wanderers.
Mgangira believes the team is now gaining momentum but stressed the vital need for consistency to unseat current league leaders Bullets, who have accumulated 18 points from seven games.
“We are the defending champions and every team come hard on you,” Mgangira explained.
“We can’t say that we started badly but these can be the judgments of people, but for us, we are taking a game as it comes. We have won some games recently, we are happy and satisfied, but we just need consistency so that we move up the table.”
