Clement Nyondo’s early strike was a match-decider at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers amassed maximum points over Karonga United but he was hooked off early in the second half.
The 2023 TNM Super League Golden Boot winner and Player of the Season nominee scored his first goal of the season and the lone strike produced the 1 – 0 result in favor of the Nomads in the team’s 6th assignment of the 2024 TNM Super League season.

Following the result, Wanderers has moved to second position on the log table having amassed 12 points out of the possible 18.
The game started on a slow pace as both teams seemed to lack motivation till Nyondo sank in the mud a golden chance on 12 minutes before repenting his sin just 1 and seconds as he then later found the back of the net after connecting well a Gaddie Chirwa’s pass with his left foot.
The goal fueled motivation in the Wanderers’ players as they took authority in the match. They kept mounting pressure on Karonga which led to chances in the 21st and 27th minutes of the match but wasteful NOMA squandered the chances through Chirwa who headed wide a Stainly Saudi’s cake and Nyondo who sent the ball to the heavens respectively.
It was then a battle in the midfield as Nomads’ Blessings Singini and Karonga’s Ellie Kayombo showcased their talent in making the play for their respective teams.
Karonga United were only on the verge of leveling matters at 45 minutes as Blessings Mwalilino’s long drive rattled the upright.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers made changes early in the second half as Francisco and Christopher Kumwembe were introduced for Wisdom Mpinganjira and Clement Nyondo.

Following the changes, wanderers did not rest piling pressure on Karonga having so many shots on target but MacLean Mwale in goals for Karonga was equal to the task as he produced a solid performance by stopping every Wanderers’ attempt.
In desperate search of an equalizer, Karonga United made a triple substitution on 71 minutes as the technical panel introduced Alfred Chizinga, Obbie Raphael, and Robert Luhanga to replace the trio of Allen Chihana, Blessings Mwalilino, and Pilirani Thulu.
The changes seemed to work for the visitors as substitute Robert Luhanga found the back of the net on 83 minutes just to be ruled offside.
Reacting to the result, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers assistant coach, Meck Mwase expressed satisfaction with the 3 points.
“We drew our previous 2 games so we wanted to collect 3 points today, and we are delighted that we have collected that 3 points,” said Mwase.
Karonga United’s mentor, Oscar Kaunda conceded the defeat but he was quick to congratulate his charges for putting up a gallant fight despite the defeat.
Kaunda explained; “Congratulations to my players for a good game. Yes, we have lost but the boys played well, most of them are young and it was their first time playing at Kamuzu Stadium but they managed to put up an impressive performance.
