Nkhakananga has become the center of controversy recently after wrecking the game between Silver Strikers and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers last year in the Airtel Top 8 Cup when he awarded a goal to Silver Strikers after initially signaling a hand-ball offense.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the development saying that Nkhakananga will be among the officials at the tournament.
“Nkhakananga is among the referees to handle games at the tournament,” he said.
Assistant Referee, Pondamali Tembo will be among the Assistant Referees at the tournament, a development which has excited the National Referees Association saying the regional football governing body has shown trust in the referees.
Malawi National Team pulled out of the tournament after the Football Association of Malawi decided to make the decision in order to keep on mourning the late Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima and eight others who died in a plane crash.
