Congolese football giant TP Mazembe has formally appealed to the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) after the Ligue 1 governing body, Linafoot, failed to overturn a points deduction related to the registration of player Patrick Mwaungulu.
Linafoot previously docked six points from Mazembe, ruling that the club improperly featured Mwaungulu in the Ligue 1 Championship playoffs, as he had also played for CS Don Bosco in the same competition. Mazembe’s initial appeal to Linafoot was unsuccessful, prompting them to escalate the matter.
On Friday, June 27, 2025, TP Mazembe submitted documents to FECOFA, asserting that Mwaungulu was rightfully registered by the association and requesting the reinstatement of their points.

Linafoot declares Patrick Mwaungulu ineligible for TP Mazembe, club appeals
“Since the player’s arrival at CS Don Bosco, TPM has relied on documents approved by FECOFA for the registration of player number 7,” a statement from the club read.
“All documents were included in the appeal file, yet Linafoot made a complete turnaround in its decision, venturing into a matter in which it has no clear expertise. Regarding a player’s status, the Federation is the only body that holds all relevant details in the player’s sports passport.”
TP Mazembe emphasized its commitment to recovering the points, which they believe are crucial for securing a spot in CAF tournaments.
Currently, TP Mazembe sits fourth in the Linafoot Ligue 1 Championship Playoffs with 29 points from 15 games. They are five points behind leaders Les Aigles du Congo, while FC Lupopo and AS Maniema Union are second and third with 32 and 31 points, respectively.
