FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Head Coach Peter Mponda has lauded Enos Chatama’s impressive work at Ekhaya FC this season, acknowledging their strong start to the league campaign. However, Mponda believes it’s premature to label Ekhaya as title contenders, suggesting such expectations are “too much for them.”
Ekhaya FC currently sits in third place in the league with 20 points from 10 games, having secured six wins, two draws, and two losses. Their season began with back-to-back victories against Mighty Tigers and Civil Service United, before experiencing a defeat to Chitipa United.
They then bounced back to beat Songwe Border United FC, followed by another loss to Kamuzu Barracks. Ekhaya’s recent form includes a win against Karonga United, a goalless draw with Blue Eagles, victories over Creck Sporting Club and Mzuzu City Hammers, and a draw against Dedza Dynamos Football Club.

“Family affairs” ahead as Bullets face Ekhaya
Ekhaya faces a significant challenge on Wednesday as they prepare to take on league leaders and record 17-time champions, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. This highly anticipated match is being dubbed “family affairs,” given that a significant portion of Ekhaya’s squad previously played for either Bullets’ senior or reserve teams.
Ahead of the crucial encounter, Mponda was pressed on whether he views “the Cowboys” as genuine title contenders this season.
“Ekhaya are in a good position according to where they are coming from,” Mponda said. “They are enjoying their life in the league. I think they didn’t expect it. However, tagging them as title contenders, then we are putting a high bar for them.”
He continued, “Their coach [Enos Chatama] is doing a commendable job, and their players are doing well. It’s good for them because they are coming from a lower league, and coming into the elite league, they are collecting points against big teams. But saying that they are title contenders, it’s too much for them.
This Wednesday’s match marks the first time Ekhaya Football Club and Nyasa Big Bullets will face each other in the elite league. The two sides previously met in the final of the Sapitwa4 Bonanza in Mulanje, where Bullets emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.
Nyasa Big Bullets currently leads the league with 24 points from 9 games, having won 8 and lost just once, creating a four-point gap over Ekhaya. Sources
