Minister of State Hon. Alfred Huwan Gangata has issued a passionate call to all Malawians to turn out in force this weekend to support the Silver Strikers as they face Tanzania’s Yanga Africa in a crucial CAF fixture.
In a statement released today, Minister Gangata emphasized that the match represents more than just a sporting contest – it’s an opportunity for Malawi to demonstrate its unity, passion, and hospitality on the continental stage.

“This is more than just a football match; it is an opportunity to showcase the passion, unity, and hospitality of our great nation,” the Minister stated. “When we fill the stands, we are not only supporting our team but also promoting sports tourism, which has the power to stimulate our economy.”
The Minister highlighted the broader economic impact of hosting such high-profile international fixtures. Large attendances create business opportunities for Malawians, from local vendors to transport operators, while bringing much-needed foreign exchange into the country.
“I understand that Yanga will be travelling with over eight buses of supporters,” Minister Gangata noted. “Let us therefore rally behind the Bankers as they carry the Malawian flag high. Their victory will not only be a triumph for Silver Strikers but a win for development of football in Malawi and national pride.”
Minister Gangata’s appeal underscores the government’s commitment to supporting local football and creating an environment where Malawian teams can compete at the highest levels. The fixture against Yanga Africa provides a platform to showcase the progress being made in Malawian football.
The Minister emphasized that strong fan support not only lifts the team’s performance but also sends a powerful message to transport and local vendors across the region about Malawi’s passion for the beautiful game.
Football fans are being urged to wear their team colors, come out in large numbers, and create an atmosphere that will inspire the Silver Strikers to victory against their Tanzanian opponents.
“Come one, come all, let’s paint the stadium blue and white! Together, let’s make history,” the Minister concluded.
The Bankers reached this stage after edging Elgeco Plus of Madagascar on the away-goal rule following a 1-1 draw in Lilongwe and a goalless stalemate away in Antananarivo.
Yanga, meanwhile, thrashed Angola’s Benguela Williet 5–0 on aggregate, winning 3–0 away and 2–0 at home.
