Mafco FC tasted their second win in the 2024 TNM Super League on Saturday afternoon after claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over rookies, Friends of Mulanje Orphans, FOMO Football Club at Chitowe Stadium.
Former Kamuzu Barracks striker, Marshall Maluwa scored the only goal that saw the Salima-based Soldiers end their winless streak at home this season.

Jimmy Mzunga, Coach for Mafco said the win was vital for the team as they aim to climb up the ladder. “We are happy with the win. We created chances in the first half and the boys utilized the chances in the second half. We are not satisfied with our season but we have to push to be where we want to be.”

Gilbert Chirwa, Head Coach for FOMO FC said Mafco FC’s delaying tactics frustrated his charges saying “We were pushing for an equalizer but Mafco’s delaying tactics frustrated us.
“It was a good game, we missed our chances, and we conceded the goal from the mistake of the keeper who punched the ball into the net.”
After a disappointing 1-0 defeat to CRECK Sporting Club, FOMO needed a win over Mafco FC but they have been bad travelers as they are yet to win an away game.
Mafco FC were coming from a 1-0 win over Bangwe All Stars, another win wasn’t an option as they wanted to move away from the red zone. Now they sit 11th with 9 points.
