Eliya Kananji is targeting his first win as Creck Sporting Club head coach as they visit Civil Service United this afternoon at Civo Stadium in a TNM Super League battle for three crucial points.
Creck Sporting, currently 9th on the log with 11 points from nine games, aims to consolidate their position and potentially break into the top half.
While 11 points might seem modest for an ambitious club, in a season where points are proving hard to come by, it’s a respectable return. A win today could see them climb to 6th, provided Moyale Barracks, Dedza Dynamos, and Silver Strikers falter in their midweek fixtures.

This match marks an early test for Kananji, whose debut at the helm resulted in a 1-0 away loss to Ekhaya FC on June 14, 2025. Kananji, who replaced Joseph Kamwendo, will be eager to kickstart his tenure with a positive result. However, despite Civil Service United’s struggles, the match is expected to pose a significant challenge.
Creck Sporting’s recent performances have been inconsistent. The loss to Ekhaya followed a three-game unbeaten streak that included draws against Kamuzu Barracks and victories over Songwe Border FC and MAFCO FC.
They have recorded three wins and two draws this season and will be hoping to secure their fourth victory. Notably, their previous win against Civil Service United in October 2024 came on the road, suggesting they are capable of performing away from home.
The most recent significant encounter between these two sides was a 3-1 victory for Creck Sporting on October 30, 2024. This result will undoubtedly be a major talking point and a source of motivation for the home side seeking to reverse that outcome. Civil won the first-round fixture last season.
Speaking to the media ahead of the crucial match, Kananji emphasized the team’s thorough preparations and the positive mindset of his players as they strive for maximum points.
“Our preparations have gone well and I’m happy with the positive attitude of the boys,” said the gaffer. “I’m really optimistic; if they follow what we’ve been working on for the past 10 days, we will claim the victory.”
Kananji, who previously coached Civil Service United, also touched upon his former team’s potential mentality for the game.
“I once coached Civil and I know their mentality sometimes. They will need to show that they can do better over me, but my target is to win and be in a better position on the standings. What matters most is three points.”
This will be Kananji’s second match as Creck’s Head Coach. The match is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 PM CAT at Civo Stadium.
