FCB Nyasa Big Bullets First Assistant Coach, Gilbert Chirwa, has provided an encouraging update on Peter Banda’s return to competitive football, stating that the attacker is “closer to gaining minutes” after a prolonged recovery from a debilitating shoulder injury.
Banda, a former standout for Simba Sporting Club, has expressed his eagerness to rejoin the squad and fight for a spot in Peter Mponda’s starting lineup.
His career was significantly hampered after aggravating a shoulder dislocation in March 2023 during a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between the Malawi National Team and Egypt in Cairo. This persistent injury even led to the termination of his contract with Tanzanian side Singida FC.

Recognizing the immense potential in the son of their late former midfielder Dr. Chikondi Banda, Bullets re-signed Peter Banda for a third time late last year. The club demonstrated a strong commitment to his recovery by sending him to Tanzania for surgery.
Banda has been undergoing rehabilitation since January and has now begun training with the team.
Chirwa, a former Bullets defender himself, confirmed the positive progress: “This is the second week training with him since he returned from injury. He is doing well, showing his brilliance, and hopefully, we will feature him in the near future, but we don’t want to rush him.”
For his part, the 24-year-old playmaker says he is ready to compete and earn his place in the team’s starting XI when given the opportunity.
