Briefing the media on Sunday, Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa confirmed that the team will be without striker Gabadinho Mhango, who is suspended, and TP Mazembe’s Mwaungulu, who is ill.

“I heard from the doctors that Patrick Mwaungulu is not available for this game. I think he has malaria. We will also be without Gaba [Mhango], who is suspended. All the other players are ready to go,” he said.

Mhango was suspended after accumulating two yellow cards in games against Namibia and Liberia. The Football Association of Malawi initially believed the suspension had been served after Equatorial Guinea failed to arrive in Malawi on Thursday.

The Association sought clarification from FIFA on the matter, and it appears they were informed that the suspension remains valid.

Malawi have collected 13 points from 9 games while São Tomé are the table anchors.
