The Central Bankers could dream again. It’s too early of course but their impressive performance and results couldn’t be paid blind eyes. Silver Strikers have now gone three points clear at the top with a 2-0 win over struggling Baka City Football Club at Karonga Stadium.

Peter Mponda voiced the importance of getting the win in the Northern Region despite the condition of the pitch. Baka City came out with resilience, to no surprise as Silver took the lead late in the first half.

Omarry Hamis produced an excellent save to deny Chinsisi Kaonga’s early goal attempt as Silver were looking for an early stabler. Baka City are yet to record a win in the elite league in five games but they were out to frustrate the league leaders. Two corners each in the first 10 minutes showed that it was a pound-to-pound tie.

Peter Mponda was captured on the touchline, screaming at his charges. By a half-hour, Silver Strikers’ leading forward players, Adiel Kaduya and Binwell Katinji had tasked Baka’s keeper once.

Gule Mwaisope was unfortunate not to beat George Chikooka in a one-on-one situation. Nixon Mwase made a timely block Taniel Mhango’s goal-bound effort.

A pendulum swung to the other side with Kaduya creating a shooting space but the defence for the hosts stood firmly solid to frustrate him, Katinji powered over the bar Chinsisi Maonga’s corner.

The Bankers found the much-needed goal, thanks to Chimwemwe Kaliyala’s own goal. Chimwemwe Idana found Maonga’s whose effort was unfortunately tapped home by the defender.

After the restart, Mwaisope was denied a goal by Chisomo Mpachika. Zebron Kalima who replaced Maonga at the break called the keeper to make two saves, as Bankers were streaming forward powered by Chikondi Kamanga from midfield, it wasn’t to the surprise of many when he was named the star of the game.

Kaduya and Katinji combined again to seal the win for the Bankers. The reserve graduate who has four league goals this season found the former Civil Service United’s towering goal-poacher whose effort hit the back of the net in the 88th minute.

Silver Strikers will play two home hames against CRECK Sporting and Karonga United before making a first trip to Blantyre to play against the defending Champions, FCB Nyasa Big. They are four points above Ramadan’s Wanderers and Pasuwa’s Bullets.

Baka City who are still in wilderness searching for the win face FOMO FC at home before travelling to Mzuzu to play Moyale Barracks and Lilongwe to play against Civil Service United. They remain at the foot of the table with a point from 5 games.
