Civil Service United are riding a wave of positive results across all competitions. Having gone 14 games unbeaten, they will be eager to carry that form into the FDH Bank Cup.
The Servants host National Division League side Mchinji Villa this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the FDH Bank Cup.
The two teams operate in different divisions – Civil sit fourth in the elite league standings while Villa are second from bottom in the second-tier league.

Civil will be looking to book their second semifinal of the season and potentially set up a mouth-watering clash against rivals Silver Strikers, who hammered defending champions Blue Eagles to reach the last four. The two teams previously met in the Airtel Top 8 Cup semifinal, where the Bankers scored late to break Civil’s hearts.
However, Civil cannot afford to underestimate the Mchinji-based outfit. They were stunned by Panthers FC last season in the Castel Challenge Cup, and will be hoping they have learned from that painful experience.
“We have done everything possible to win this game because it is crucial. We understand that every game matters, but this is a cup tie, which makes it even more critical,” said Abbas Makawa.
“As Civil, we are well prepared. We are taking it very seriously and everybody in our camp knows the importance of this match.
“We saw last year that we were beaten by a small team, so we are quite aware of what can happen. As a team, we are prepared and we are going to fight for the win.
“It will be a tough game. We watched them against Red Lions and we know how good they are. We are hungry to win.
“To tell the truth, Civil have a brand to protect. We have something to protect, but our opponents have nothing to lose. This makes the game very important for us because we are fighting for two things – to protect our brand and to book a place in the semifinal. We are going to deliver.”
Mchinji Villa Head Coach Abel Mkandawire believes his boys are ready to cause an upset.
“We are ready for the game. After the defeat against Red Lions, I have seen that we have learned something and the boys are eager to do well. Against Red Lions, we were not supposed to lose that game.
“What we want is to make our fans happy. Tactically and technically, the players are looking good. I believe they will do well,” said Mkandawire.
To reach the quarterfinals, Civil beat Chitipa United in the round of 32 before edging Red Lions 1-0 away from home, while Mchinji Villa defeated Chatoloma Admarc in the round of 16.
