Officials from Chilobwe United remain optimistic about securing promotion to the National Division League, despite currently sitting fourth in the South Region Football Association (SRFA) ThumbsUp Premier Division League.
The team trails Ekhaya FC Reserve, Mighty Wanderers Reserve, and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve, but may still earn promotion even from fourth place. This is because reserve sides of TNM Super League teams are ineligible for promotion to the National Division League, Malawi’s second-tier competition that feeds into the Super League.
Club general secretary Benham Chinombo expressed confidence that the team can climb to first place, ensuring their promotion is earned rather than granted by default.

“Chilobwe United will be promoted as league champions. It is possible and it will happen. We will focus on securing more wins than draws in the second round,” Chinombo said.
He pointed to the team’s strong record against their competitors as evidence of their quality. “We are even a better team than all three teams ahead of us. We defeated Ekhaya 2-1, we defeated Bullets 1-0, and only Wanderers managed a goalless draw against us.”
Chilobwe finished the first round in strong form, recording 8 wins, 4 draws, and 3 defeats from 15 games.

To boost their second-round campaign, the club has strengthened its squad with two new signings. “We have brought in Anthony Patele, a defender who will help reinforce our backline, and we have also signed a striker whose impact you will see when the second round begins,” Chinombo revealed.
At a recent review session held by SRFA at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre, association chairperson Dyles Kachala urged independent teams to raise their game above the reserve sides.
“It is my plea to teams like Chilobwe United, who are in fourth position, to push harder and reach the top. We want the promoted team to be strong and competitive, because otherwise people will say we promoted a weak side,” Kachala emphasized.
Ekhaya FC currently lead the table with 34 points, followed by Mighty Wanderers Reserve with 32 points. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve occupy third place with 28 points and a superior goal difference of +21, placing them ahead of Chilobwe United, who have the same points tally but a goal difference of +15.
Chilobwe United will begin their second-round campaign on Saturday, September 21, when they face FOMO Reserve at Moneymen Ground.
