FCB Nyasa Big Bullets first assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa has downplayed his team’s chances of winning the league, saying it is too early to assess any team’s championship prospects.
The TNM Super League is set to resume on Saturday after an extended break due to the FIFA international window, national elections, and the FDH Bank Cup.

Bullets will return to action at Kamuzu Stadium in their first league match since drawing 3-3 with Karonga United in their final game of the first round. They currently lead the table by one point over second-placed Mighty Wanderers after 17 games, having collected 40 points compared to the Nomads’ 39.
Heading into matchday 18, Bullets will face Dedza Dynamos and have an opportunity to open a four-point gap over Wanderers, who will be in Botswana for their CAF Confederations Cup return leg against Jwaneng Galaxy.
When asked about the team’s championship chances—having lost the title to Silver Strikers in 2024 after winning five consecutive titles from 2018—Chirwa insisted it’s premature to discuss title prospects.
“I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about winning the league. Our focus now is on collecting points every time we play. When the time comes, we will talk about the title race. For now, what matters is doing our job, match after match,” he said.
Chirwa emphasized that Saturday’s match is crucial and warned against complacency.
“We are not taking this game lightly. Each and every game is tough, so we have been telling our boys to work extra hard. Their response has been positive, and we are encouraging them to stay focused in every game we play.
“Every team that plays against us works very hard to make a name for themselves. They fight to turn the tables, and we are aware of that. We have prepared accordingly,” he added.
Dedza Dynamos have started the second round strongly, winning their opening matches against Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks. They currently sit 9th in the table with 21 points from 17 games.
