Dedza Dynamos Head Coach Alex Ngwira expressed his dismay following his team’s lackluster performance in their 2-0 defeat to Mighty Wanderers FC on Sunday afternoon. The loss at Kamuzu Stadium marks Ngwira’s first defeat since taking the helm, snapping a three-game unbeaten streak.
Ngwira, who previously coached the Wanderers, watched as his former club secured victory with goals from Promise Kamwendo, who headed in Wisdom Mpinganjira’s cross, and Isaac Kaliati, who sealed the win with a superb free-kick.

Alex Ngwira: No special preparation against Wanderers, I know how they play
“The boys looked lost, like they were in a strange place, and we conceded a cheap goal,” Ngwira stated after the match. “After that goal, we lost confidence; everyone thought the game was already lost.”
Ngwira revealed that the team’s pre-game strategy was to contain Wanderers in the first half, but they failed to execute this plan, conceding what he felt were avoidable goals due to excessive respect for their opponents.
“We agreed before the game that even if it becomes difficult to play with them, let’s just hold them in the first half, but the goals that we conceded were like we were respecting Wanderers,” he explained.
While Dedza Dynamos showed some improvement in the second half, Ngwira believes his strikers lacked the necessary confidence to convert opportunities.
“Second half we came into the game, but like I said, we respected them too much because we created chances, but the strikers were not having that confidence,” he lamented. “No one scores without being marked; a striker can score even with a small space as long as he is fast.”
Dedza Dynamos, currently in 7th place with 13 points, will now return home for their next two fixtures. They are set to face Ekhaya on Saturday before traveling to Dwangwa to take on Mafco.
