Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka is set to be elevated to a new role within the organization.

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya revealed on Friday that the experienced administrator will be promoted to Operations Director, though no timeline was given for the formal announcement.

Haiya made the disclosure while addressing Zakazaka, who was serving as master of ceremonies at the unveiling of Yvon Avry as FAM’s new Technical Director on November 14.

Zakazaka is one of the longest-serving members at the association, having joined in 2013. Before his tenure at FAM, he worked for nine years as a sports journalist and Head of Sports at Nation Publications and MIJ Radio.

During his time at FAM, Gomezgani has held several key positions. He started as Media Manager before serving as Acting Head of Marketing and later Competitions Manager. He was subsequently elevated to his current role as Competitions and Communications Director.

Beyond his work with FAM, Zakazaka has built an impressive portfolio with continental and regional football bodies. At COSAFA, he served as Media Officer at both the COSAFA Cup 2019 and COSAFA U-17 Championship 2019, before taking on the role of General Coordinator in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

His work with CAF has been equally distinguished. Since 2020, Gomezgani has been working as General Coordinator, while also serving as Assistant General Coordinator and Pre-match Ceremonies Coordinator. His multi-skilled expertise in sports administration and media has made him a valuable asset to football development in Malawi and across the continent.

The formal announcement of Zakazaka’s new appointment is expected in the near future.
