FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will be without key midfielder Yankho Singo for today’s crucial league encounter against Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium, with his availability for the weekend’s Blantyre derby also in doubt.
The versatile midfielder sustained a muscle injury during Bullets’ 2-1 FDH Bank Cup victory over Kamuzu Barracks, where he had started as a defender before being substituted in the second half. Aaron Chilipa replaced him as the league leaders secured their place in the cup semifinal.

Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Assistant Coach Gilbert Chirwa confirmed the blow but remained tight-lipped about Singo’s potential return date.
“Yankho pulled his muscle against Kamuzu Barracks and he is definitely out of this match,” Chirwa said. “For sure we will miss him. Yankho is a good player but we have several other players who can step in. We are covered and ready to play against Mafco and Mighty Wanderers on Sunday.”
The injury comes at a critical juncture in the title race, with Bullets preparing for Sunday’s blockbuster Blantyre derby against second-placed Mighty Wanderers. Singo has been one of the team’s most dependable performers this season, featuring regularly in Peter Mponda’s squad.
Bullets currently lead the Super League standings with 46 points from 19 matches, holding a four-point advantage over their city rivals, who have played one game fewer. A victory against Mafco today would extend that gap to seven points before Wanderers face Blue Eagles on Wednesday at Nankhaka Ground.
The 17-time champions will be looking to maintain their impressive form despite Singo’s absence, banking on their squad depth to navigate this challenging period of fixtures.
