Women’s National Championship kicks off on Saturday

Ekwendeni Sisters, Civil Women’s Team and Bvumbwe Women’s Team to battle for the last slot in the final phase of the competition

The National Women’s Football Association in conjunction with the Football Association of Malawi has announced that the first play offs for the FAM Women’s Football Championship starts this Saturday at the Mpira Stadium.

The Association has said that the first phase will involve three teams that finished fourth in region leagues which are Ekwendeni Sisters from the North, Civo Women from the centre and Bvumbe Women from the South to face off and find one team that will Qualify to the second phase of the preliminary round.

The winner of the first phase will play three teams that finished third in the region leagues, Mighty Wanderers Women, Silver Strikers Ladies and CY Sisters and the two will join the 6 seeded teams in the Quarter finals of the tournament.

The fixtures for the first preliminary round has been released by the Association with the team’s facing each other for points as follows

•Bvumbwe Women vs Ekwendeni Sisters @ 9:00hrs

•Civo Women vs Bvumbe Women @ 12:00hrs

•Ekwendeni Sisters vs Civo Women @ 14:30hrs

The second preliminary round will be played on 22nd of April whereas the Quarter finals will be played on 23rd and 24th April, the semi finals on 26th of April and the final then played on 28th of April 2024.

The winners of the tournament gets K8 million, K4 million is for the runners up, the third placed team will get K2 million and K1.5 million is for the team on fourth position. Team qualified for the Quarter finals will also get K1 million each for subvention.
