The clock is ticking, fast approaching the kick-off of the game between Chitipa United and Civil Service United. However, the Servants could bag three points facilely as the wrangles between Chitipa and Super League of Malawi are refusing the cease.

As reported by Wa Mpira on Wednesday, The 2023 Super League Surprise package, Chitipa United are ready to face Super League of Malawi, Sulom’s punishment as they are planning for a show for their forthcoming fixture against Civo Stadium.

Details of the Matter

When Chitipa were in Dedza [playing against Dedza Dynamos], SULOM released a fixture indicating that from their trip in Dedza, they were to play Civo on Thursday at Karonga Stadium because Civo asked for a double fixture.

Wa Mpira understands that Chitipa wrote SULOM requesting for the fixture shift from Thursday to Saturday since they are coming from an away fixture and they have already been a victim makeup up fixture when any team travels to Karonga the case of their game against Tigers when they played in Mulanje.

Instead of SULOM responding to Chitipa United’s appeal, they shifted the game to Friday and that of Baka City to Saturday.

So Chitipa United wrote another letter to follow-up their first letter that they need consideration and that they’re surprised that why SULOM is not answering in writing.

In response, the SULOM GS has told Chitipa United that their fixture will remain unchanged, and if Chitipa fail to honor the fixture they will be severely punished.

Reports reaching this Publication say that the team have written SULOM that they won’t honor the fixture and SULOM should continue with their decision of punishing them because they feel like this scheduling stems from bad motives, not a transformative agenda.

What on the ground?

Civil Service United are still in Karonga ready for the game as scheduled by the league governing body, but they stand a chance of getting the points without playing the game.

Chitipa United have stood up to their decision, the Club’s General Secretary, Watson Kabange confirmed that the Club will not honour the fixture.

“Our stand remains the same, we are not playing the game [against Civil Service United] on Friday,” he confirmed.

Chitipa risk facing Sulom’s punishment

Sulom has ‘strongly’ commanded Chitipa United to fulfill their fixture against Civil Service United. In a later address to the Club signed by General Secretary, Williams Banda, Sulom say Chitipa must fulfill the fixture.

“We are in receipt of your letter dated 20 May 2024 with the above subject matter. Please note that the fixture remains the same as communicated, on Friday, 24 May 2024.

“The game shall proceed to be played on this day and failure to honor the fixture shall attract a punishment as stipulated in the rules and regulations,” reads the letter.

According to Sulom’s Constitution, Chitipa risk losing three points and fined MK2 Million for failure to honor the fixture.

Article 22 sections 2 and 3 reads, “A cub that fails to fulfill a fixture without any just cause, shall have the points forfeited and shall be liable to pay a fine of MK 2.000,000.00 The points shall, therefore, be awarded to the opposing team

“Any request for postponement of a match shall have a just cause and shall be dully signed by a chairperson or Chief Executive Officer of the
club. No official other than the chairperson or Chief Executive Officer of the club shall request for a postponement of a match.”

Chitipa United are one of the struggling Clubs this season after finishing fourth last season.
