Wanderers unveil Rajab Nyirenda as new signing

Mighty Wanderers FC have officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Rajab Nyirenda from Ekhaya FC on a three-year deal.

The left-footed attacker was unveiled on Thursday, transfer deadline day, at the club’s Lali Luban Road headquarters in Blantyre as he committed his future to the Nomads until 2027.

Nyirenda has established himself as one of the most consistent performers since breaking into elite football with Chitipa United in 2019. The attacking midfielder played a crucial role in Chitipa’s impressive fourth-place finish in the 2023 season, contributing five goals and four assists from midfield.

Such was his impact that Chitipa moved quickly to secure his services with a contract extension in January 2024, successfully fending off interest from Bangwe All Stars who had been keen to acquire his signature.

However, Ekhaya FC managed to sign the talented midfielder earlier this year, though Nyirenda struggled for regular playing time and was subsequently loaned back to Chitipa United to maintain his match fitness.

Now, the 25-year-old has made the step up to join TNM Super League contenders Mighty Wanderers, with the club already registering him for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign as they look to strengthen their squad for continental competition.

Nyirenda becomes Wanderers’ second signing of the current transfer window, following the free transfer acquisition of Muhammad Sulumba last month.

The Nomads will be hoping their new recruits can help them challenge for silverware both domestically and in continental competition this season.
