Mighty Wanderers players have respectfully approached the club’s leadership requesting increased game bonuses for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign, according to reports from Nation Sport.

The Nomads are set to face Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana on September 21, 2025, at the Bingu National Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for September 25-26 at a venue to be confirmed by CAF.

This marks Wanderers’ return to continental competition since 2018, when they suffered a devastating 6-1 defeat to Congolese side AS Vita in the CAF Champions League preliminary round. This time, however, the team is competing in CAF’s second-tier tournament and appears confident about progressing to the group stages.

The road to their target won’t be easy. After facing the experienced Galaxy side, Wanderers would potentially meet the winner of the tie between Gabon’s FC 105 and Zambian giants Zesco United, should they advance.

Galaxy brings considerable pedigree to the matchup, having reached the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stages and currently sitting 39th in the CAF club rankings.

Club president and board chairperson Thomson Mpinganjira recently visited the team at their Kamuzu Stadium training base, outlining ambitious targets for the season.

The business mogul and philanthropist, who finances the Nomads, expects the team to capture the TNM Super League title, FDH Bank Cup, and successfully defend the Castel Cup, while also advancing beyond the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage.

During a private meeting with players – conducted without other club officials present – several concerns were raised. According to Nation Sport, players highlighted two key issues: delayed travel allowance payments and their request for CAF tournament bonuses to exceed those paid for domestic competitions.

Despite the challenges ahead, coach Bob Mpinganjira expressed confidence in his squad’s preparation for their first CAF Confederation Cup assignment in eight years.

“We hold deep respect for our opponents, Jwaneng Galaxy FC, as they are a disciplined and physically strong team with a well-structured tactical setup,” Mpinganjira said. “We know they will pose a significant challenge.”

However, the coach emphasized that his team remains undaunted by Galaxy’s reputation and continental experience, suggesting the Nomads are ready to make their mark on their return to African competition.
