Mighty Wanderers and midfielder Francisco Madinga are at an impasse over a new contract, leading to discussions between the club’s technical panel and the player.
Madinga’s current contract expires on August 6, 2025. While the team is keen on an extension, Madinga has not signed, reportedly due to dissatisfaction with the proposed terms. The club is said to have offered a K7 million signing-on fee and a K700,000 monthly salary. Madinga, however, is seeking a K10 million signing-on fee and a K900,000 salary for a two-year deal.

The Nomads have reportedly deemed Madinga’s demands too high and proposed that if he were to receive his requested fee, the contract would be extended for an additional year. Madinga, however, appears unhappy with this condition.
Earlier this week Wanderers Chief Executive Officer, Panganan Ndovi confirmed to National Publication Limited that they had reached agreement with the player to leave when his contract expires early in August. However, the club released a statement stating that they are still negotiating with the player over a new deal.
The contract dispute coincided with Madinga being left out of the team’s recent northern region trip. The Nomads drew 1-1 with Moyale Barracks and later lost 3-1 to Silver Strikers in Lilongwe.
On Thursday, the technical panel, led by team manager Steve Madeira and head coach Bob Mpinganjira, held a 13-minute meeting with Madinga. The club is keen to retain the player, who has become a crucial part of their squad this season. Madinga was back in the squad for training ahead of their game against Chitipa United this weekend at Kamuzu Stadium.
So far this season, Madinga has scored two goals and provided two assists in the league, earning two Player of the Match awards. His performance has been vital in the club’s pursuit of the TNM Super League title and a spot in the CAF Champions League.
