Mighty Wanderers FC fans can expect to see striker Christopher Kumwembe back in action for the club soon, following his return from a season-long loan with Green Buffaloes in Zambia’s MTN Super League.

Kumwembe, 28, has been resting in Lilongwe since his contract with the Zambian outfit expired. Wanderers Chief Executive Officer, Panganani Ndovi, confirmed the club’s plans for the forward. “He is resting after a long season in Zambia. We are hoping to have him back after resting,” Ndovi stated.

The Nomads benefited financially from the loan agreement, earning MK30 million. A permanent transfer failed to materialize as Green Buffaloes considered Wanderers’ valuation of $80,000 for Kumwembe “unrealistic.”

Kumwembe’s time in Zambia began brightly, as he scored in Buffaloes’ 4-1 victory over Mutondo Stars. However, his performance was significantly impacted by injuries, limiting him to just two goals throughout the 2024–25 season. In his last 10 matches, he started only once—in a 4-0 loss to Nkhwazi FC—and made the squad on just four occasions.

Kumwembe originally joined Mighty Wanderers in December 2022, and his current three-year contract is set to expire in December of this year. While discussions regarding a new deal have yet to begin, the former Civil Service United striker has reportedly garnered interest from clubs outside Malawi.

Despite the interest, Kumwembe has confided in close contacts that he is yet to make a definitive decision about his future, though a return to Zambia remains a strong possibility.
