Nomads Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi confirmed that a 52-member delegation took off from Kamuzu International Airport at approximately 10:30am.
“We are fully prepared for this crucial away fixture. Our 52-member delegation departed as scheduled this morning,” Ndovi stated.
The club’s decision to charter a private aircraft was strategic, aimed at minimizing player fatigue ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
“Our primary objective is to secure victory, and reducing travel-related fatigue on our players is essential to achieving that goal,” Ndovi explained.
The Nomads travel to Botswana with a valuable advantage, having secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg at Bingu National Stadium last Saturday. Captain Felix Zulu’s second-half strike proved to be the difference, giving Wanderers a crucial away goals buffer heading into the return fixture.
Head coach Bob Mpinganjira has intensified preparations for what promises to be a decisive showdown, with the team focused on completing the job on foreign soil.
This marks another instance of a Malawian club investing in chartered flights for continental competition. In 2023, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets made headlines when they chartered a flight to Lubumbashi for their CAF Champions League second-round encounter against TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
With a narrow but precious first-leg advantage, Wanderers will be looking to secure their passage to the next round of Africa’s second-tier club competition when they take to the field on Saturday evening.
