Mighty Wanderers have won the race to re-sign former striker Muhammad Sulumba, beating Central Region side Creck Sporting Club to secure the services of the free agent.

The towering forward has returned to Malawi following the expiration of his contract with a Libyan club, which chose not to renew due to strict foreign player quota restrictions. According to Nation Sport, Libyan Football Federation regulations limit clubs to a maximum of three foreign players.

Sources close to the situation reveal that Sulumba had been in negotiations with Creck Sporting Club about a potential return. The 30-year-old striker represented Creck last season, and both parties had a gentleman’s agreement that would allow his return upon his homecoming from abroad.

Sulumba is expected to sign his contract with Wanderers today, marking his third stint with the club. The experienced striker has had an extensive career across multiple clubs, including Blantyre United, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, and Civil Service United.

Sulumba burst onto the professional scene around 2012 with Blantyre United (now defunct) before moving to Mighty Wanderers two years later. He then joined FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, where he played from 2016 to 2018.

Seeking international opportunities, Sulumba moved to South Africa’s Polokwane City in 2018, though he managed only two goals during his stint there. Over the past four seasons, his career has taken him across Iran and Bahrain, with brief domestic returns to Wanderers in 2020 and Civil Service United in 2022.
