Tiya Somba-Banda, the former president of the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), has resigned from his position as a board member of Mighty Wanderers FC. The resignation, which is effective as of July 31, 2025, comes as the club prepares for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
According to a press release signed by Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe, Somba-Banda’s resignation is a preemptive measure to avoid a potential conflict of interest. Somba-Banda also serves as a CAF General Coordinator, and the club’s statement notes that his departure was necessary “to ensure the integrity and fairness of the competition.”

The statement expressed gratitude for his service, saying, “We sincerely thank Mr. Tiya Somba Banda for his dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment during his tenure as Director and Chairman of Football Development. His contributions have been invaluable as we continue our mission to make Mighty Wanderers mighty again.”
