Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, 32, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. These charges follow an investigation that began in February 2022. Partey, who was previously unnamed for legal reasons, continued to play for the Premier League club until his contract expired at the end of June.

The allegations involve three different women and relate to incidents reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 5.

Jaswant Narwal, of the CPS, stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape — after carefully reviewing a comprehensive file of evidence.” He added that CPS prosecutors worked closely with the Metropolitan Police on the investigation, reviewing evidence and advising on appropriate charges.

Narwal emphasized the importance of a fair trial, reminding the public that “criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.” He urged against any reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could prejudice the proceedings due to significant public interest.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose Metropolitan Police team led the investigation, highlighted their priority: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.” He encouraged anyone impacted by the case or with information to contact the investigation team at CIT@met.police.uk.
