MDF Lioness have stormed into the final of the 2024 Goshen City National Women’s Championship, securing their place with a commanding 3-0 victory over Civil Service Women. The semi-final clash, held at the iconic Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, showcased the Lioness’ dominance and their relentless pursuit of glory.

From the first whistle, MDF Lioness demonstrated hunger for the anointed prize. Just after six minutes into the game, Fazira Chiyembekezo opened the scoring with a brilliantly executed strike, setting the tone for the match. Her second goal came just eleven minutes later, a testament to her clinical finishing and the team’s cohesive play. By the 17th minute, the Lioness were already in firm control.

As the first half drew to a close, Mervis Misomali added a third goal in the 42nd minute, effectively sealing the game before halftime. The Civil Service Women struggled to find a foothold throughout the match, unable to break through the Lioness’ rock-solid defense. The game ended with an orgazimic  victory for MDF Lioness, sending them  to the final with confidence and momentum on their side.

Battling for the final slot in the Goshen City FAM Championship

With this victory, MDF Lioness are set to face Ascent Academy in the final on 19th May 2024 at Bingu National Stadium.  Ascent Academy tramped on the central Bankers ladies by beating them by two goals to nill,an own goal from Ruth Nyirongo and one from Atuweni Njilima. This highly anticipated match promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the championship, as two of the best teams that knocked the best from the North, south and central  in the campaign go head-to-head for the coveted title.

Notably, Ascent Academy has reached the final for the second consecutive time, a testament to their consistency and excellence in women’s football in the warm heart of Africa.
