She was also presented with the Golden Boot award, which she reclaimed after scoring 15 goals and providing three assists this season for Kansas City Current.
Her third honor was being named to the NWSL Best XI, where she was selected as a left-wing forward—a position she has predominantly played in the league.
Speaking after receiving the MVP award, Chawinga thanked those who voted for her and credited her teammates for contributing to her success.
“I am very happy because it is not easy to win this award twice. I want to thank the people who voted for me and my teammates. To my fellow nominees in this category, there is always next year, so let’s keep working hard,” Chawinga said.
Chawinga has settled remarkably well in America during her first two years, breaking numerous records along the way. She became the first player since Sam Kerr to win back-to-back Golden Boot awards and the fastest player to reach 30 NWSL goals in just 41 games. She also helped drive Kansas City Current to win the NWSL Shield for the first time in the club’s history.
She has now retained all the awards she won in her debut NWSL season.
