South Korean forward Son Heung-min has announced he is leaving Tottenham Hotspur after a decade at the Premier League club. The 33-year-old confirmed the decision at a press conference in Seoul, stating he has “achieved everything I can at Tottenham” and needs a “new environment for a fresh challenge.” His announcement comes just weeks after captaining the team to a historic Europa League trophy win.

Son, who became the first Asian player to score 100 Premier League goals, leaves the club with an impressive record of 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 appearances. His final act as captain was lifting a European trophy, a goal he said he had “always dreamed for.” This victory, according to the player, helped him decide to leave on a “perfect high note.”

“It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career,” Son said, his voice full of emotion. “I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, a boy who couldn’t speak English. I leave this club as a grown man.”

The former Premier League Golden Boot winner is rumored to be considering a move to Los Angeles, a city with a large Korean population and a growing Major League Soccer (MLS) scene that includes stars like Lionel Messi. Son indicated his next destination will be a key factor in preparing for what may be his last World Cup. “I need my new environment to give all that I’ve got for my football career,” he stated.

According to a club source, Son informed newly appointed head coach Frank of his desire to leave earlier this summer. His teammates, including close friend Ben Davies, were reportedly disappointed but respectful of his decision. “Everybody was disappointed but also in a way very happy for me,” Son shared.

The forward’s professionalism was praised by both his teammates and coach, and his legacy at the club is considered secure. After the Europa League win, he reflected on his place in Tottenham history. “Let’s say I’m a legend. Why not? Only today! This is what I’ve always dreamed for,” he said at the time. “I am the happiest man in the world.”
