FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder, Yankho Singo, has been named in the 2025 COSAFA Cup Group Stage Best XI, standing out as the sole representative from the Malawi Flames despite the team’s disappointing performance.
Singo’s versatility and endurance were highlighted as he featured for the full 270 minutes across Malawi’s three group stage matches.

The midfield anchor demonstrated his adaptability by initially playing in his preferred defensive midfield role against Lesotho, before seamlessly transitioning into central defense where he partnered with Blessings Mpokera.

The Best XI, released by COSAFA on Thursday, sees Singo paired in midfield with Pipino Ahmed of Tanzania, a testament to his impactful displays.
Angola, who topped Group B with an impressive seven points, dominated the selection with three players, including their coach, Pedro Soarez, earning a spot. Mauritius contributed two players, while Mozambique, Comoros, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar each had one player recognized.
While Singo’s individual brilliance was acknowledged, the Flames endured a challenging campaign, failing to secure a single victory or score a goal, ultimately finishing at the bottom of Group B with just one point, leading to their early elimination from the tournament.
The COSAFA Cup semifinals are set to be played on June 13th, with Angola facing Madagascar and South Africa taking on Comoros.
