TNM Super League Champions Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers are planning to request the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to postpone their upcoming league fixture to allow proper preparation for their respective CAF competitions, according to Zodiak Radio.

The Central Bankers are returning from a two-week FIFA International Break and were scheduled to resume their league campaign with a home match against Wanderers. However, both clubs are now seeking a postponement due to their continental commitments.

Silver Strikers, currently sitting third in the league with 36 points, will face a busy period this month as they prepare for the CAF Champions League. The defending TNM Super League champions have been drawn against Elgeco Plus of Madagascar in the First Preliminary Round.

Meanwhile, Mighty Wanderers will take on Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round. The Nomads will begin their campaign at home at Bingu National Stadium before traveling to Botswana for the second leg.

Should they progress from the first preliminary round, Wanderers would face the winner of the tie between Zesco United of Zambia and FC 105 Libreville of Gabon in the second round.

Silver Strikers’ potential second-round opponents would be either Wiliete Bengeula of Angola or Young Africans of Tanzania, depending on their first-round results.

Reports suggest both teams are concerned about the risk of losing key players in Sunday’s scheduled league encounter at Silver Stadium, preferring to preserve their squads for the continental competitions.

However, it remains unclear if SULOM will accept the request.

Silver Strikers last competed in CAF club competition in 2019, when they were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Ambere SC of Gabon in the first preliminary round.

Mighty Wanderers’ most recent continental appearance came in the 2018 CAF Champions League, where they were knocked out by AS Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Both clubs will be eager to make a stronger impression in their return to African football’s premier competitions.
