Silver wallop CY Sisters as Civil boot Wanderers to reach the last 8 of Goshen FAM Championship

Two Central Region sides, Silver Strikers Ladies and Civo Women have booked their places in the Quarter finals of the Goshen National Women’s Football League after winning their respective games in the second Preliminary matches in the tournament at the Bingu National Stadium on Tuesday.

The Bankers were in juvial mood after walloping Northern Region side, CY Sisters 16-0 in the first game of the day as they netted 8 goals in each half of the match.

Striker, Deborah Henry netted 8 goals alone while Chikondi Gondwe and Madyina Ngulube scored a hat trick each and a goal each from Linda Manda and Chisomo Banda sealed the win.

Meanwhile, the Civil Servants were 1-0 winners over the Nomads after Bernadette Nyenga netting the lone goal of the match in the 34th minute to seal the Quarter final place in the tournament.

The Chairperson of the National Women’s Football Association, Adelaide Migogo, said the tournament has given different girls from different regions to showcase their talents.

“We are happy to see how the tournament has started off, the teams have really shown that they are fighting for something in the tournament and we have seen talents here, people were doubting that in the North there’s no talents but we have seen CY Sisters today, despite losing but they have done well.” Said Migogo.

She added that they have planned to make the games free at the Bingu National Stadium as part of selling the game to masses in the country and asked people to come and watch the games till weekend.

Action continues on Tuesday with two quarter final matches as Ascent Academy play Kukoma Ntopwa Queens in an early kick off match before the crash of titans at 15:00hrs as FCB Nyasa Nyasa Big Bullets Women face MDF Lioness.

Other Quarter final matches will come on Wednesday as Silver Strikers Women play MK Academy in an early kick off while Civo United Women will play Moyale Sisters at the Bingu National Stadium.

The tournament has been spiced up by Football Association of Malawi who have pumped in K50 million on top of K21 million which Goshen City Trust sponsored the tournament making that the Champions will get K8 million, runners up gets K4 million, third placed team will get K2 million and the Fourth placed team earning K1.5 million.

The final of the tournament will be played on the coming Sunday, 19 May 2024.
