Silver Strikers Ladies completed a perfect first round in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership, wrapping up with an emphatic 7-0 victory over MK Academy at Silver Stadium on Saturday.
The Bankers were in dominant form as star forward Deborah Henry took her league tally to 14 goals after netting four against the Northern Region side.

Henry opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a fine finish before Wezzie Mvula recorded her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. An own goal from Tiyamike Banda gave the Bankers a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.
Henry added her second in the 52nd minute before Chikondi Gondwe made it 5-0. The league’s top scorer then completed her hat-trick with two late goals to seal the comprehensive win.
Head coach Andrew Chikhosi acknowledged the challenge despite the scoreline, saying MK Academy proved difficult to break down, but expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance.
“We are doing well, having won all our games in the league, but there are still areas we need to improve to perform even better,” Chikhosi said.
The Bankers will travel to the Northern and Central regions for their second-round fixtures, having already faced all Blantyre-based teams away from home in the first round.
They finished the opening phase as the league’s highest-scoring team with 28 goals—nine more than second-placed Ascent Academy—while also boasting the joint-best defense alongside Ascent, conceding just five goals.
Silver Strikers Ladies have opened a seven-point gap at the top with 27 points from nine wins, after Ascent Academy dropped points on Sunday in a 1-1 draw against Kukoma Ntopwa Queens.
