Silver Strikers are stepping up their preparations for the CAF Champions League by seeking a CAF A Coaching License holder to lead the team. This comes as current head coach Peter Mgangira, who holds a CAF B license, does not meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) minimum qualification for coaches in their tournaments.
Mgangira was appointed earlier this year after Peter Mponda, who guided the team to the 2024 league championship, returned to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. However, Mgangira’s ineligibility for CAF competitions has prompted Silver to search for a new head coach.
Bankers Reportedly Eyeing Kadenge Return
Times Sport reports that Silver Strikers are looking to bring back former Assistant Coach, Etson-Kadenge Mwafulirwa, to take the helm.

Kadenge initially joined Silver Strikers in 2022 after a successful stint with Missi City Hammers, where he helped the team gain promotion to the TNM Super League and reached the FDH Bank final in 2021, losing to Silver Strikers.
His previous tenure at Silver ended amidst controversy. In 2023, while serving as assistant coach under Pieter De Jongh, Kadenge was suspended for alleged misconduct.
Although he was later reinstated and cleared of wrongdoing by the club’s disciplinary committee, De Jongh refused to have him back in his technical team. The club then considered redeploying Kadenge to the Reserve team before both parties mutually parted ways, as reported by Wa Mpira.
Now, 14 months later, the Bankers are reportedly in talks to bring Kadenge back to Area 47. While discussions are ongoing, it remains unclear whether the coach would stay with the club beyond the CAF Champions League campaign.
