TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers have announced the return of former coach Etson-Kadenge Mwafulirwa ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign.
Kadenge initially joined Silver Strikers in 2022 after a successful period with Missi City Hammers, where he helped the team gain promotion to the TNM Super League and reach the 2021 FDH Bank Cup final, ultimately losing to Silver Strikers.

The former Ekwendeni Hammers coach joined Silver with high expectations. However, tensions developed when the club employed an expatriate mentor, creating a strained relationship between Kadenge and the team. This led to his departure in May 2024.
In July 2025, Wa Mpira reported that the Bankers were in talks with Kadenge about a potential return to Area 47. While an agreement has now been reached, it remains unclear whether the coach will stay beyond the CAF Champions League campaign.
The official squad announcement for the team’s departure to Mauritius this afternoon confirms Kadenge’s inclusion among the coaching staff.
Silver Strikers brought back Kadenge to meet CAF’s coaching requirements for continental competition. Current head coach Peter Mgangira holds only a CAF B license, which falls short of the Confederation of African Football’s minimum qualifications for their tournaments. CAF requires coaches to hold a CAF A license for Champions League participation.
Mgangira was appointed earlier this year after Peter Mponda, who guided the team to the 2024 league championship, returned to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
The Bankers have made notable additions to their squad, with Andrew Joseph joining from Chitipa United and Ernest Petro from Big Bullets. Both players have been included in the traveling squad, while Tatenda M’balaka and others miss the trip due to injury.
The Central Bankers will depart Malawi on Thursday, September 18, 2025, flying from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 2:15 PM. After transiting through Nairobi, Kenya, the team is scheduled to arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius at 4:00 AM Friday morning, allowing adequate time for acclimatization before Sunday’s crucial fixture.
Silver Strikers have been in intensive training camp since last week, with the technical team conducting rigorous sessions to ensure players are in peak condition for the challenging continental assignment.
The first leg will be played at the Cote d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius, as Madagascar currently lacks CAF-authorized venues to host international matches.
