Silver Strikers have delivered encouraging news regarding the recovery of two key players—midfielder Festus Duwe and versatile defender-cum-midfielder Tatenda Joker M’balaka.
M’balaka has yet to feature this season following a serious Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury that has kept him sidelined since 2023.

The talented left-footer’s troubles began during a match against MAFCO in the 2023 season. What appeared to be a routine knock developed into a persistent knee problem that forced him to miss the remainder of what had been a breakthrough campaign.
The timing proved particularly cruel for M’balaka, who had established himself as the first-choice left-back for the senior Malawi national team and was enjoying one of his finest seasons in club football.

When initial treatment in Malawi proved unsuccessful, doctors recommended specialized care abroad. Medical examinations revealed a torn meniscus requiring surgical intervention.
On January 24 this year, M’balaka underwent successful knee surgery at AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya, beginning what has been a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Recent social media activity from “Joker”—as M’balaka is affectionately known—has sparked excitement among Silver Strikers fans. A picture posted with the caption “guess what?” has fueled speculation about his imminent return.
Speaking to the Super League of Malawi in July, M’balaka provided insight into his recovery journey:
“I’m pleased to report that my recovery is going well. The surgery and rehabilitation process are on track, and I’m optimistic about my progress,” he said.
The defender was candid about the comprehensive impact of the injury beyond the physical toll: “The injury had a significant impact on me physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: that life and football are unpredictable. I’ve come to understand the importance of giving my all on the field because the future is uncertain.”
“Duwe Nearing Return from Groin Injury”

Meanwhile, Duwe has been absent from the team for the past two months, with his last appearance coming against Karonga United in June.
The former Civil Service United and Ascent Soccer player had been instrumental for Silver Strikers before suffering a groin injury. His importance to the team was underscored by his golden boot award at the 2026 Airtel Top 8 Cup, where he netted three goals.
Last week, Silver Strikers announced that both players are close to resuming full training following their recoveries.
“Comeback loading! Tatenda M’balaka and Festus Duwe have returned to the field of play this week. The two are currently in rehabilitation awaiting their full recovery and return,” the club stated via social media.
“M’balaka sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury and had to undergo ACL reconstruction surgery in Kenya, while Duwe was struggling with a groin injury. We can’t wait to see the two in full action.”
The Bankers face Young Africa Sports Club on Saturday in the CAF Champions League while sitting third on the TNM Super League log table. The potential return of both players could provide a significant boost as the team pursues success on multiple fronts.
