Silver Strikers Ladies clinched the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership title with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Kukoma Ntopwa Queens at the Silver Stadium on Sunday afternoon, maintaining an unassailable 10-point lead with just three games remaining.

The Bankers needed only a win to secure the championship and dominated from the outset, scoring three goals within the opening 15 minutes. Mercy Sikelo opened the scoring before Ennie Botha’s own goal and Yamikani Mhango’s strike put the match beyond doubt. Grace Kakangula added a fourth in the second half to seal a comfortable victory.

Head coach Andrew Chikhosi expressed his delight at winning the league, crediting the success to a project launched last year.

“We assembled a good squad with excellent depth. For example, when Madyina Ngulube was absent, no gap was visible, and now she’s back contributing to the team. Our strong first-round performance also laid the foundation for this success,” said Chikhosi.

Ntopwa Queens’ deputy coach Chikumbutso Henry admitted his side were outclassed on the day.

“It’s a painful result because we didn’t come here to lose, but Silver wanted it more. A win crowned them champions, so we accept the defeat,” he said.

Ascent remain second in the league with 32 points from 10 wins, two draws and three defeats, while MK Academy languish in eighth with seven points from one win, four draws and 10 defeats.

Chavinda’s Brace Guides Bullets Women Past TOPIK

Mary Chavinda scored her second consecutive brace, netting twice late in the game to inspire FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women to a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over TOPIK Academy at the Luwinga Technical Centre.

Cecilia Nzima gave the hosts a seventh-minute lead, but Chavinda equalized in the 76th minute before striking the winner eight minutes later to secure a vital three points.

Bullets Women head coach Maggie Chombo-Sadick praised her team’s resilience.

“In the first half we struggled and played too many long balls. At halftime, we told the players to stay calm and not feel pressured, and it worked perfectly with those two goals,” said Chombo-Sadick.

TOPIK Academy coach Levi Mhone acknowledged his team’s improved performance despite their relegated status.

“We’re playing without pressure now after our relegation. We came here determined to end our winless run, but we lost and must accept it,” said Mhone.

The People’s Team remain third with 28 points from eight wins, four draws and three defeats, while TOPIK Academy stay bottom with three points from three draws and 12 defeats.

Lioness Maul Moyale Sisters

MDF Lioness scored four goals in a devastating 30-minute spell to thrash Moyale Sisters 4-0 at the Mzuzu Stadium and keep their hopes of a top-three finish alive.

Ruth Tambala, Sabina Thom, Salome Vinkhumbo and Eltech Phiri all found the net in the first half as the Lioness ran riot.

Head coach John Kaputa was pleased with the victory but noted his side’s inability to add to their tally after the break.

“We scored four in the first half, and while the second half yielded no goals, we’ll return home smiling. I thank the players for their performance,” said Kaputa.

Moyale Sisters coach John Chimwala lamented his team’s collapse after conceding the opener.

“After the first goal, the players’ desire left them and we conceded four goals in quick succession, which is unacceptable. In the second half we improved and managed to contain them,” said Chimwala.

MDF Lioness are fourth with 25 points from seven wins, four draws and three defeats, while Moyale Sisters sit ninth with five points from one win, two draws and 12 defeats.

Wanderers Queens End Losing Streak Against Civil Women

Mighty Wanderers Queens ended their two-match losing streak in emphatic fashion, handing Civil Women a 2-0 defeat at the Mpira Stadium.

The Nomads scored through Tawina Kawaga’s ninth goal of the season and a stunning strike from Esther January to complete a league double over the civil servants. Vitumbiko Mkandawire saw her penalty kick strike the post in what was otherwise a dominant display.

Head coach Thom Kazembe admitted the victory was crucial for his team’s confidence.

“We were going through difficult times and desperately needed this win. We started poorly, but after making tactical adjustments, we managed to break them down,” said Kazembe.

Civil Women coach Collins Pofera rued his side’s inability to capitalize on first-half chances.

“We had a good first half where we created opportunities, but in the second half, Wanderers dominated and our mistakes gifted them the goals,” said Pofera.

Wanderers Queens remain sixth with 23 points from seven wins, two draws and five losses, while Civil drop to seventh with 22 points from six wins, four draws and four defeats.
