Scorchers face Morocco without Temwa, Madise, continue WAFCON preparations

Temwa Chawinga and Chimwemwe Madise have all been ruled out of the Scorchers friendly match against Morocco due to club commitments. Rose Kabzere joined the squad while Tabitha to jet in today.

The Malawi Women’s National Team, the Scorchers, will be without key players Temwa Chawinga and Chimwemwe Madise for their upcoming friendly match against Morocco.

The Football Association of Malawi confirmed that both players have club commitments during the friendly period, preventing their participation.

Defender Chimwemwe Madise, born on April 6, 1992, is currently playing for TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, while prolific forward Temwa Chawinga is with KC Current in the United States of America.

This friendly marks the Scorchers’ fifth preparatory match as they build towards their crucial 2026 WAFCON qualifying tie against Angola in October.

The team’s camp at Mpira Village, which began on Monday, has seen the arrival of France-based Rose Kabzere, who joined the squad on Tuesday and had her first training session on Wednesday.

Captain Tabitha Chawinga is expected to link up with the team at Mpira Palace on Friday. Meanwhile, Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadetta Mkandawire will travel directly to Morocco from Kazakhstan to join their teammates.

France-based midfielder, Rose Kabzere joined the camp on Thursday.

Head Coach Lovemore Fazili expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress in camp. “Everything is okay, and players are responding well. We have all the local players that we called into camp except midfielder Asimenye Simwaka who travelled outside the country for other duties, but she will join us on Friday,” Fazili stated.

He emphasized the importance of the friendly against Morocco, saying, “The friendly match against Morocco will give us a good test ahead of the Angola match and we are very hopeful that by the time we will be playing our qualifier, we will have prepared well and there won’t be excuses.”

The Scorchers are scheduled to depart for Morocco on Monday, June 16, 2025, with the friendly match set to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
