Malawi National Team will need positive results in their next games in the World Cup Qualifiers. One win, one defeat from their opening two qualifying games, and Sao Tome De Prince and Equatorial Guinea stand in the way.
Patrick Mabedi on Sunday released a 31-man provisional squad that is expected to go camping in Blantyre on Monday. The former Kaizer Chiefs defender has included several uncapped players in his squad.

Precious Sambani has made his way back into the squad after missing for a while as the left-back has been battling with persistent injuries in recent years. He last played for the National Team back in 2021 against South Sudan.
Tatenda M’balaka has also returned to the squad after missing the Four-Nation tournament due to an injury. The defender has featured in recent fixtures for the Bankers.
Two uncapped keepers, Charles Chisale for CRECK Sporting Club and Civil Service United’s Blessings Juma will battle for the place in the final squad with established Innocent Nyasulu and Silver George Chikooka has also been called.
Silver Strikers’ midfield maestro, Uchizi Vunga who scored a wonderful goal against CRECK Sporting Club on Sunday has also been called, that’s his first call-up.
Malawi will host Sao Tome at Bingu National Stadium on Thursday, June 6 before facing Equatorial Guinea away in Malabo four days later.
FAM Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the team will camp in Blantyre for two weeks before moving to Lilongwe on 27th May.
“During the camp, players will be allowed to return to their respective clubs to fulfill club assignments where necessary. Wanderers and Silver Strikers players will join the camp later due to club engagements as they play in a Kamuzu Day celebrations ceremonial match. It is expected that the team will travel to Lilongwe on 27th May 2024 to continue with its preparations for the two matches. The list of foreign-based players will be released later on,” said Zakazaka.
