FCB Nyasa Big Bullets attacker Chikumbutso Salima will miss Malawi’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers after being ruled out due to injury.
The prolific attacker sustained the injury during Sunday’s TNM Super League match against Silver Strikers, which Bullets won courtesy of a penalty. Salima was withdrawn in the build-up to the spot-kick that decided the game.
The forward, who has registered nine goals and 10 assists this season, was a constant threat to Silver throughout the match and was fouled 10 times. He drew the final foul from goalkeeper George Chikooka inside the penalty area, resulting in the controversial penalty that settled the contest.

Hassan Kajoke converted from the spot before Salima was substituted by Henry Chiwaya in the 83rd minute.
Bullets Head Coach Peter Mponda revealed that Salima’s withdrawal was injury-related. “He was taken off due to an injury he sustained in the build-up to the penalty. They [Silver] planned for him, but they were failing to match him. He was a thorn in their side, and I didn’t see any reason to substitute him otherwise. I’m happy with how he kept pushing despite being targeted,” Mponda said.
Mhango Also Out
The Malawi National Team will also be without captain Gabadinho Mhango, who is serving a one-match suspension after accumulating two yellow cards in the previous two qualifiers.
However, there is positive news for the Flames as Babatunde Adepoju has joined camp and is in line for his first international appearance. Mayele Malango is also expected to arrive in camp today.
Malawi will face Equatorial Guinea on October 9 before traveling to São Tomé for their next qualifier.
