Rampant PSG hammer Inter to win UCL before Arsenal

A rampant Paris Saint-Germain claimed their first UEFA Champions League trophy with the heaviest final victory in the history of the competition as a 5-0 mauling of Internazionale prompted massive celebrations in Munich.

On the 70th staging of the European Cup final, Luis Enrique’s energised young side cut open their Italian opponents for the opening goal on 12 minutes when the electric 19-year-old player of the match Desire Doue set up Achraf Hakimi for an easy finish on 12 minutes.

And the Ligue 1 champions never looked back with PSG having far too much class and hunger for a wounded opponent, who had conquered Europe in 1964, 1965 and 2010.

The second PSG goal was a thing of beauty as they broke from deep in their own box to double the lead as Doue slammed a volley into the net from Ousmane Dembele’s pass with the ball deflecting off the hapless Federico Dimarco to fly beyond Yann Sommer.

But PSG were far from finished as Doue raced onto the sublime Vitinha’s pass for the third on 63 minutes before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia bounded clear to slam Dembele’s ball into the net for the fourth 10 minutes later.

With Inter out on their feet, it was left to substitute Senny Mayulu to complete the mauling of Simone Inzaghi’s men from fellow sub Bradley Barcola’s lovely supply work on 86 minutes, the ball finding the net via the near post.

It means PSG join Olympique Marseille, who defeated Milan 1-0 in 1993 courtesy of Basile Boli’s headed winner at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, as the only French sides to claim the club game’s most coveted competition.

They also extend a remarkable run of maiden trophy winners in Munich after Nottingham Forest (1979), Marseille (1993), Borussia Dortmund (1997) and Chelsea (2012).

Enrique can also revel in becoming only the sixth coach in history to win the Champions League with two clubs following his 2015 success at Barcelona.
