“Predator” Sama returns after missing 8 games for Wanderers ahead of Kamuzu Barracks clash

Mighty Wanderers FC have received a significant boost with the news that their towering Cameroonian striker, Sama Thierry Tanjong, has been certified fit to play and is set to return to action this weekend against Kamuzu Barracks.

Tanjong has been sidelined for the entire season thus far, nursing an injury sustained during the NBS Bank Charity Shield match against Silver Strikers. Initially ruled out for four weeks, the club opted for a cautious approach, extending his recovery period.

He has missed six crucial league games against Blue Eagles, Mighty Tigers, Mafco FC, Creck Sporting, Silver Strikers, and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, in addition to two Airtel Top 8 Cup fixtures against Karonga United.

However, the “Nomads” faithful will be thrilled to learn that Sama is part of the traveling squad heading to Mponela for their upcoming encounter with Kamuzu Barracks.

His return provides a welcome option for coach Bob Mpinganjira who has been relying on Promise Kamwendo, Blessings Mwalilino, and Clement Nyondo in the striker’s role.

In Sama’s absence, Blessings Mwalilino has particularly stepped up, emerging as a key attacking threat with three goals in his last three games. He found the back of the net in the 1-1 draw against Silver Strikers, the vital 1-0 victory over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, and a 1-0 friendly win against Creck Sporting Club.

Mighty Wanderers have enjoyed a strong start to the season, remaining one of only two unbeaten teams in the league. They currently sit second on the TNM Super League table with 16 points from six games, trailing rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets by two points, though Bullets have played an extra game. The Nomads have secured impressive victories against Blue Eagles, Creck Sporting, Mafco FC, Big Bullets, and Mighty Tigers.

Sama Thierry Tanjong’s contribution was instrumental in the Nomads’ successful campaign last season, where they finished second in the TNM Super League and lifted the Castel Championship, with Sama himself scoring in the Cup final against Mzuzu City Hammers.
