England-based defender Jubril Adesope Okedina is set to miss the Malawi National Team’s upcoming fixtures against Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé due to injury, head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has confirmed.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Pasuwa revealed that the defender sustained an injury at his club and has been advised against traveling.

“Okedina didn’t come because he has got an injury. We talked to his team and the doctor said he should not be part of the game. Maybe next time when he is fit, he can be part of the team,” Pasuwa explained.

The coach also confirmed that midfielder Chikumbutso Salima will miss the matches after picking up an injury in his club’s game against Silver Strikers last weekend.

“We have got Chikumbutso [Salima] who got injured last weekend against Silver. And he is not part of the squad,” he added.

In a separate update, Pasuwa disclosed that Charles Petro is yet to arrive in camp but is expected to join the squad this afternoon.

Okedina, who was first called up to the Flames in March 2024, made his international debut on 23 March in a 4–0 defeat to Kenya. His absence will be a blow to Pasuwa’s defensive options for the crucial AFCON qualifier.

The Flames will host Equatorial Guinea on Thursday evening at Bingu National Stadium before traveling to Tunisia for their away fixture against São Tomé on 13 October.
