The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) is on the verge of securing a significant new sponsorship deal for its eagerly anticipated Premier Division, aiming to fill a critical funding gap ahead of the 2025 season.
This comes as the association seeks to bolster the league’s financial stability following the unexpected withdrawal of key co-sponsor, Mzuzu 12.

The Premier Division, a vital stepping stone for talent in Malawi’s northern region, operates on an annual budget of MK25 million. However, the non-renewal of the MK5 million commitment from Mzuzu 12 has left the league with a noticeable shortfall.
Mzuzu 12, a group of individuals who supported the league for a single season, have opted not to continue their partnership, with the reasons for their departure yet to be publicly disclosed.
Despite this setback, optimism remains high within the NRFA. During the recent launch of the 2025 Simama Premier Division, NRFA Chairperson, Masiya Nyasulu, reassured stakeholders that discussions with prospective new partners are in “advanced stages.”

Nyasulu hinted at a truly transformative agreement, suggesting the new sponsorship package would be “shocking” in its scope and would be unveiled “soon.”
“We are tirelessly working behind the scenes to ensure our Premier Division not only meets its financial targets but thrives,” Nyasulu stated. “The conversations we are having are extremely promising, and we believe the incoming sponsorship will elevate the league to unprecedented heights, benefitting clubs, players, and fans alike.”
The search for a new co-sponsor is crucial for maintaining the league’s operational efficiency, ensuring timely disbursements to clubs, and supporting player development initiatives. The Simama Premier Division, consistently a source of exciting football and budding talent, relies heavily on corporate backing to sustain its activities across the region.
This season marks a new chapter for the Premier Division, which has transitioned from being Malawi’s second-tier league to its third-tier following the recent introduction of the National Division League.
